Magic and romance meet down in the bayou where A Midsummer Night’s Dream comes to life and the Jazz Era in America explodes. This popular comedy gets a new and contemporary treatment when set in the art deco world of the Deep South’s mangroves and Spanish moss. When the feuding king and queen of the fairies interfere in the couplings of mortals, the result is pure pandemonium and magical mayhem.
On a Midsummer’s night, four young lovers find themselves wrapped in the dream-like arms of an enchanted bayou where sprites lurk and fairies rule. While a feuding Fairy King and Queen are at war, their paths are crossed by Bottom, Quince and their friends presenting a play-within-a-play. Chief mischief-maker Puck is on-hand to ensure that the course of true love is anything but smooth, and games of fantasy, love and dreams ensue in this contemporary-language adaptation of Shakespeare’s most beguiling comedy.
THIS SHOW IS RATED G.
Filled with lovers, fairies, and rustics, "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" has something for everyone, and is a family-friendly production with contemporary language. This show includes many of Shakespeare’s usual puns, innuendo, and suggestive jests between three loving couples (including the king and queen of the fairies), but is suitable for all audiences. Add a misapplied love potion, mistaken identities and the most famous play-within-a-play ever written, and you have a perfect recipe for mirth.
