Romeo and Juliet is a story of a timeless love and a love for all times. Two families, more alike than different, have been embroiled in an ancient and bitter feud, though most have forgotten why it began. The younger generation has never known life without this boiling hatred for the other. Yet Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet are struck with a profound and searing passion and love for one another. Over the course of a few days, during the explosive heat of a Verona summer, they consummate their potent love. They fervently hope to quell the flames of their families’ prejudice and hatred. Shakespeare’s love story is constantly in motion with the universal elements of desire and revenge, loyalty and rebellion, courage and recklessness, and of lovers who truly cannot live without one another. This production will run approximately 90 minutes.
About Our Production:
Our version of Romeo & Juliet will be staged in a way we’ve never done before at ABRHS! We are going to create a smaller, closer, and more intimate theatre space by bringing our audience seating up on stage! The close proximity between audience and actors will provide a visceral experience for all. This production will be explosive, passionate, and searing with the heat of love, hate, and a Verona summer. We’re looking for actors who are excited to explore these potent emotions, to tackle the unparalleled language of Shakespeare, and to actively engage with the audience. This is going to be a very physical performance, a play that is always in motion, driven by the universal elements of desire and revenge, loyalty and rebellion, courage and recklessness, and of lovers who truly cannot live without one another.
Audition & Rehearsal Schedule
This is a very tight rehearsal schedule. Students must attend every rehearsal for which they are scheduled with no exceptions. It will be possible to participate in this show and the Class Plays but scheduling will be tight. Please see Mrs Potter with questions. Click here to download schedule.
SCRIPTS ARE AVAILABLE IN MRS POTTER'S OFFICE.
AUDITIONS: Tuesday March 6: 6-9pm:
Sign up for a 5-minute slot in Mrs. Potter’s office.
Callbacks: Wednesday March 7: 6-9pm
TO PREPARE FOR AUDITIONS:
• READ THE SCRIPT AND BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE CHARACTERS.
• Prepare one monologue--2 minutes or under--to perform at the audition:
A classical monologue is preferred, but not necessary. Possibilities include:
--- Shakespeare, Moliere, Restoration Comedy
--- Anything before Shakespeare’s time such as a Greek play
--- A modern or contemporary monologue
--- It can be a drama or a comedy
--- Last choice: though it is much preferred that you have a memorized piece--if you are unable to fully memorize one, don’t let that keep you from auditioning—you may read from a script of the monologue of your choice as long as you have spent a good deal of time working on it.
Who May Audition:
Anyone may audition as long as you can be available for all potential rehearsals.
Those cast in the class plays may audition, but know that your busy schedule will be considered
when casting choices are made, especially regarding the roles of Romeo & Juliet.
