Welcome to Proscenium Circus, the Student Theater of ABRHS!
We function as a working theater where students, professionals, faculty, parents and community members work together to create exceptional theater. We strive to create theater that entertains, teaches, informs and stretches our audiences’ views of the world. We work to give every audience member a quality experience in every show.
Opportunities abound for students and parents to become involved in Proscenium Circus. Parents enrich the program adding their unique expertise in areas such as painting, publicity, set construction, tickets, hair and makeup, costumes, producing, serving on the board of Friends of Drama—and, of course, parties! We need many adult hands in PC and everyone is welcome to participate, whether for one show or many.
We encourage every student who wants to learn about theater to join PC. Students who are new to the group find, without exception, that PC is a warm and inviting place where class level quickly melts away and many lasting friendships are formed.
PC produces 6 - 8 major shows a year, not counting the festival of 10-minute directing class plays in the spring. There are many opportunities to audition for a variety of roles. Casting is dependent only on the audition, not on class rank, seniority or previous experience. Whoever fits the role gets the role! Every year, over one hundred students perform in PC productions. Check the auditions section of this website to find out how to get started.
If acting is not your thing, that’s terrific, because more students work off stage than on stage! Students literally run the shows at A-B. They are in charge of crews for hair and makeup, lighting and sound, set run, set building and painting, house, and costumes. Each crew has its own student crew chief, assistants and crew. Every crew is mentored by a professional. Our technical director, Brendan Hearn, mentors all of the students involved in technical aspects of shows such as lighting and sound. We work as closely to a professional model of theater as we can. Students take pride in their work and perform at extremely high levels.
How to join PC? It is simple! Stop in to the PC office to meet Mr Hearn or me. Fill out the registration card so that you can get the PC Blast, our email newsletter sent every two weeks. Check out the call board outside the office for announcements, check this website and visit us out on Facebook. Most importantly, GET INVOLVED! Audition for a show, participate in a workshop, volunteer for a crew, do homework in the PC office and meet people. Take an acting class or a technical theater class to learn more. You will find a warm and welcoming family at PC!
