Welcome to Proscenium Circus, the Student Drama Group of Acton Boxborough High School. We function as a working theater- one in which students, professionals, faculty, parents and community members work side by side to create exceptional theater. Together we strive to create theater that entertains, teaches, informs and stretches our audiences view of the world. We work to give every audience member a quality experience in each and every show.
Opportunities abound for students and parents to become involved in Proscenium Circus. Parents enrich the program adding their unique expertise in areas such as painting, publicity, set construction, producing, tickets, hair and makeup, costumes, serving on the Board of Friends of Drama, and, of course, parties! There is a need for many adult hands in Proscenium Circus and everyone is welcome to become a part of the activities, whether for one show or many.
Any student with a desire to learn about theater is more than welcome to join PC. Students who are new to the group find, without exception, that PC is a warm and inviting place where class level quickly melts away, for distinctions between upperclassmen and underclassmen are non- existent.
On stage, PC produces 7 to 8 shows a year, not counting the 10-minute directing class plays. Students must audition for most shows. Casting is dependent only on the audition, not on class rank, seniority or previous experience. Whoever fits the role the, gets the role! Every year, over a hundred students act on the A-B stage.
If acting is not your thing, then terrifc, for there are more students who work off stage than on stage! Students literally run the shows at A-B. Students are in charge of major aspects of shows such as hair and makeup, lighting and sound, set run crew, set painting crew, set construction crew, house crew, producers, stage managers, and costumes. Each segment of the show has its own student crew chief, assistants and crew. Each crew is then mentored by a professional.
Our technical director, Brendan Hearn mentors all of the students involved in technical aspects of shows.
At A-B, we work as closely to a professional model of theater as we can. Students take pride in their crew work and perform at extremely high levels.
How to join PC? It is simple! Stop in to the PC office and meet Mrs. Potter and Mr. Hearn!
